about

The Old Man and His Son, the Soldier (A vén bakancsos és fia a huszár) is a typical example of the early Hungarian (or Transylvanian) cinema, whose headquarters were established in 1916, in Cluj (part of the present-day Romania). With an “atmospheric” soundtrack composed and performed by Alexandru Hegyesi and Robert Nedelcu, the silent film directed by Mihály Fekete (and based on a play by József Szigeti) is happily born again. The music added more than a century after its initial release is evocative of the idea of time and memory and explores the dramatic overtone of the story.
(Marian Sorin Rădulcescu - film critic).
